 Serving America's Veterans every Day

'BUDDY'S BUS FOR VETERANS'

Click to download a copy of this letter

To The American Legion Family,

Detachment Commander Mastin’s theme this year is: ‘Serving America’s Veterans Every Day’ and he truly feels, as an organization that is what we do. His Commander’s Project for this year is Charlotte Hall Veterans Home .

Charlotte Hall Veterans Home provides an Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing long-term care facility for Maryland Veterans and eligible spouses who are unable to take care of themselves due to age or disability. The Home will provide the support and services required for shelter, sustenance, medical care, and social services necessary to maintain the resident's medical condition and quality of life. When practicable, the Home will endeavor to improve the resident's medical condition with the goal of restoring independence and a return to the community.

At present, Charlotte Hall had an old bus that they used to transport the residents. It had over 250,000 miles on it and was taken out of service. I propose we buy them a new handicapped accessible bus at a cost of $63,000.00 to replace their old one.

I know this is a bold venture, but Charlotte Hall is the only Veterans Home in Maryland and services veterans from all Districts of the State and our local heroes deserve it. If the entire American Legion Family pulls together, we can make this happen.

This is why I’m asking for your support of this very special American Legion Family program. Any donation your Post, Squadron or Unit can make to this project would be deeply appreciated. On behalf of the entire Detachment of Maryland, I thank you in advance for your consideration. If you can make a donation, please make all checks out to the S.A.L. Detachment of Md. and just write in the memo section Commander’s Project Charlotte Hall Bus. You can mail these checks to:

Detachment Adjutant

Let’s all work together to buy ‘Buddy’s Bus for Veterans’.
